School of Framing
Standard Course
This course is has been developed for the serious framer and is geared towards you aspiring to and attaining the GCF exam. Once the course has been completed, you will be able to open your own business with confidence, and know how to handle safely, store and protect your customer’s artwork.
Standard Course usually 3 – 5 days
Elements covered:
Machine familiarisation, set up and maintenance, safety procedures.
Review of Fine Art Trade Guild’s Study Guide, including identification of artwork, qualities of mount board. Review of Fine Art Trade Guild mount board & framing standards
pH levels and the blue wool scale
Moulding: choosing, cutting and joining methods - underpinning.
Basic mount cutting, choosing the mount colour, single, double and multi-aperture mounts
Mount decoration, wash-wines, V grooves, and decorated panels
Dry mounting, over laminating & heat sealing,
Stretching and framing of needlework / fabric art
Canvas stretching and framing of oils
Object or 3D framing /box frames
Glass cutting / MDF cutting
Conservation / museum framing - (mount board standards)
Hand Painting of frames
Pricing & stock control
Your Legal responsibilities towards your customers, etc.
