Christina Scurr - Artist and Picture Framer

~ Artist Profile ~

ARTIST STATEMENT

Much inspiration for the Celtic series has been drawn from early Celtic designs & Celtic Christian manuscripts. I have continued the ages old tradition of design synthesis, as these Celtic images seem to evolve through the centuries extracting animal forms & recreating a contemporary Celtic style in a modern vibrant medium. Inspired by the natural beauty of the Brecon Beacons & Welsh borders, I have developed a strong design sense, focused on symbolic and cultural images, abstract & conceptual designs. Celtic style designs form the basis of the current series. Utilising self taught artistic techniques to create distinctive Celtic forms innovatively brought into the modern age through the use of acrylic inks in intense colours and hues such as Ultramarine & Ochres.

A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY & C V

I was born in 1965 and raised in the Welsh border county of Monmouthshire, achieved good academic results at school and went on to study at Usk Agricultural College, gaining an N.D.A with distinction - yes, that's right! Agricultural, not Art college. I gave up the day job in 1995 to became a self employed Freelance Artist & Picture framer. I have developed my own thriving bespoke framing business, this, along side a Period House to restore, and two lively sons, keeps me very, very busy indeed . . Paintings are built up by working wet in wet in small areas at a time, cloisonné style, and achieving organic textures plus strong to subtle tones. I use exclusively acrylic inks and calligraphy inks for their rich earth tones and vivid blues (much prized by early scribes), plus their light fast and waterproof properties
